Alcohol and Macros

Sharing is caring!

Continuing my series on oversimplifying answers to commonly asked questions: because I: (A) really enjoy making these and (B) people seem to enjoy reading them.

As we head into super bowl weekend ones thoughts turn to booze.

But how do you fit alcohol into your macros and track it🤔? The rule of tracking alcohol is to subtract the number of calories in the drink from your either your fats, carbs allowance or split between the two. (never protein)

Remember 1g carbs = 4kcal and 1g fat = 9kcals

Example:
1 shot of Jack Daniels is 78kcals

78 ÷ 4 = 19.5
78 ÷ 9 = 8.7

So we can count this as either 20 grams of carbs or 9g of fat.

A pint of Guinness is 210kcals

210 ÷ 4 = 52.5

210 ÷ 9 = 23.3

So we can count this as either 53g carbs or 23g fat.

You could also plot them between carbs and fats if you wish.

Cheers!
