Protein bar, peanut flavour. From lidl

Sharing is caring!

I picked these up in lidl yesterday. They came in a convenient 3 pack and were reasonably priced. Good idea right? Wrong.

Appearance:🍫 Smaller then average at 45g these are a chewy block with a painfully thin chocolate coating. The ingredients actually list this as a “chocolate flavour glaze”

Texture:🔹 The worst. It’s tough and so chewy it takes ages to break down. My jaws actually ache from trying to eat it.

Taste: 👅 Awful synthetic peanut flavour overwhelms everything. The chocolate coating it too thin to offer anything in therms of flavour.

These are horrendous overall. I’m struggling to think if I’ve ever had a worse protein bar and I don’t think I have. If there’s any positive here it that they do pack a decent amount of protein for their size but sacrifice practically every other metric to achieve it.

How this made it passed quality testing i don’t know. I had to check that it was actually still in date (they were). So bad it was like a throw back to the bad old days when protein bars were a nightmarish ordeal rather then a tasty convenient way to get protein.

It gets one point because I was able to digest it which technically made it food and it did in fact contain protein.

  1. Wow the other comment here is insightful.

When I’m looking for taste I like to go buy some expensive chocolate.

I think these worked out at less than £2 per bar!

Are they great? No not great. I would say find a protein bar that i really like and go buy a box of them online, that is the best way to get value and quality balance.

But lets be fair. These bars are not ok. They are not great.

I have had many protein bars far far better than this. Its actually not good quality for money. Look at the back of box. They are very low in fat and very low in sugar for the amount of protein. Most “nice” protein bars are actually loaded with sugar which defeats the point for 80% of people eating them.

I like chocolate and sometimes I eat it for dinner.
